Withering Wonders

Grasshoppers aren’t meant to fly,

Yet they do-

Catapulted forward, they leap like a rocket to

The 25 centimeter sky.

Yet, without wings, they return to earth

Because they cannot fly.

These creatures have been given little burden

Or responsibility for their flight agility

Because God designed special legs.

The energy is built in the resting state;

Like unraveled coils,

It bursts when it escapes

One meter forward with jet propulsion

Is much to the hopper hidden in the grass;

One meter forward with God’s provision

Is much to the humble hidden in the chaff.

I will stir up my soul from within;

I will allow God’s design to take flight.

It is not by my might

That my legs may leap;

It is not for my sight

That God will use me to speak.

But I will trust and wait on my Lord;

The eagle shall be below

When I get to where I’m supposed to go.

God give me the courage

To remember your purpose,

And allow my hope to find your strength

As I dote on such lovely things:

For my Father, who shepherds us perfectly,

Gathers his flock individually,

And carries his children tenderly-

Close to his heart,

He keeps me.

If people are like grasshoppers to God,

And also grass,

Then what does this denote?

Grasshoppers are minuscule, yet mighty;

They blend in with the grass.

If their faithfulness is like the flowers,

Then it grows, blooms, gives way to others,

Feeds, dies, returns to its source;

God’s air is heavy enough to bring

Down or to lift.

The grasshoppers hide among themselves and their camouflaged bladed brothers.

Beautiful flowers emerge as a sign

Of faithful living;

Simple and cyclical,

All to bring life and to come back to life.

Resting in God Is taking the gigantic grasshopper leap

Over mountainous obstacles

Because you know wherever you land,

Your landing is a miracle!

Wave your flowers as a triumphant victory

That His strength usurps your ability!
